Health & Safety Policy
Little Blossom Tree Nursery & Pre-School
A safe and healthy nursery
Little Blossom Tree Nursery aims to provide a safe, healthy and welcoming environment for children, staff, families and visitors. We recognise that young children learn through exploration, movement and play, and we balance these experiences with careful supervision and sensible safety arrangements.
Our Health and Safety Policy sets out responsibilities and procedures to identify hazards, reduce avoidable risks and respond appropriately when incidents occur.
Keeping our environment safe
Staff carry out appropriate checks of rooms, equipment and play areas and report hazards so that action can be taken. We maintain safe arrangements for access to the building, storage of potentially hazardous materials and the use of equipment.
Risk assessments help us plan everyday activities, outdoor play, visits and outings. Children are supervised according to their ages, needs, the activity and applicable staffing requirements.
Accidents, incidents and emergencies
We have procedures for dealing with accidents, injuries, emergencies and fire safety. Staff are expected to know how to respond, obtain appropriate assistance and inform parents or carers when an incident affects their child.
Relevant incidents are recorded, and we review what happened to identify whether further precautions are needed. Where necessary, we follow statutory reporting requirements.
Illness, infection prevention and hygiene
We encourage good hygiene through regular handwashing, cleaning routines and age-appropriate support with personal care. Families should tell us when their child is unwell and follow the nursery’s illness and exclusion arrangements to help reduce the spread of infection.
Nappy changing, toileting and rest times are managed with attention to safety, dignity and the child’s individual needs.
Medication, allergies and dietary needs
We ask parents and carers to provide accurate information about allergies, medical conditions, dietary requirements and any care plans. Our team uses this information to plan safe routines and respond appropriately to individual needs.
Medication is handled according to the nursery’s medication procedures and required permissions. The nursery’s existing safeguarding and essentials information specifies that medication arrangements are subject to its approved policy; families should discuss individual requirements directly with the team.
Working together on safety
Please notify the nursery promptly about changes to your child’s health, emergency contacts or care requirements. We welcome concerns and suggestions about safety and will consider appropriate action.
