Little Blossom Tree Nursery & Pre-School
Every child is welcome
At Little Blossom Tree Nursery, we recognise that every child is unique. We aim to ensure children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) are welcomed, valued and supported to take part in nursery life. We work to identify barriers to learning and participation and make appropriate adjustments to our provision.
Our approach is informed by the SEND Code of Practice and the Early Years Foundation Stage. We focus on children’s strengths, interests, development and individual circumstances rather than making assumptions about what they can achieve.
Identifying additional needs
Our practitioners observe children during everyday play, routines and learning experiences. Where we notice that a child may benefit from additional support, we discuss our observations sensitively with parents or carers. Families are encouraged to share any existing assessments, professional advice or concerns about development.
Early identification allows us to adapt activities, routines and communication and to seek further guidance when appropriate.
Assess, plan, do and review
We use a graduated approach to support children’s progress:
- Assess: understand the child’s strengths, needs and the support already in place.
- Plan: agree realistic goals and suitable strategies with parents and relevant practitioners.
- Do: put the agreed support into everyday nursery practice.
- Review: consider what is working and adjust the plan where necessary.
We keep families involved throughout this process and aim for support that is practical, inclusive and responsive to the child.
The role of our SENCO
Our Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO), Nazan Altintas, helps coordinate support for children with additional needs. This includes advising practitioners, working with parents and carers, reviewing strategies and liaising with other professionals where appropriate.
Where a child needs more specialist input, we may work with health visitors, therapists, local authority SEND services or other agencies. An Education, Health and Care needs assessment may be considered through the relevant statutory process where appropriate.
Inclusive everyday practice
We aim to provide an environment where children can participate in play, learning, outings and nursery routines. Support may include adjustments to activities, visual communication, sensory considerations, changes to the environment or individual support strategies.
We respect children’s dignity, confidentiality, cultures and family circumstances. If you would like to discuss your child’s development or support needs, please contact the nursery team.
